Business Portrait
I regularly shoot business portraits and i enjoy the challenge, subjects often work to a tight diary so I often have only a few minutes, I always get the ‘Safe Shot’ first and then try and find something a bit more interesting, This shot is lit with off camera flash and no light modifier, I [...]

I met ‘Slim’ at yesterday’s at the Veterans Weekend in East Park Hull, I’m so glad he let me take his portrait because theirs a lot of character in his face.
Hull’s Playright

I had the opportunity to photograph Hull Playwright Dave Windass this week at the Hull Truck Theatre. On Saturday 10 July one of Dave’s play’s is being performed ‘Thinspiration‘ directed by Lee Green and performed by Rachel Helen.
African Band

All the world cup coverage reminded me of an African Band I photographed recently, if you ever get the chance to see one play live take up the invitation the musics fantastic!
4 Candles – Fork Handles

Their used to be lots of hardware shops, somewhere were you could buy a pound of nails or a mousetrap, but nowadays they are few and far between. Glynis Elgey runs one in Market Weighton, and if it’s still going (I made this shot a couple of years ago) she will have been in business [...]
Sir David Frost

Sir David Frost addresses the audience at the Yorkshire International Business Convention (YIBC) 2010 at The Bridlington Spa.
And now in colour

This is the colour take on yesterday’s post, I like them both but which image do you feel works best and why?
The Screen Printer

John Burrows, screen printer and artist, Bishop Wilton village East Yorkshire. I met John while covering a feature, couldn’t meet a nicer bloke, think we chatted for over an hour!
Friendly Villager’s

I was covering a country feature today, as often happens I started chatting with a lovely local guy Mick Coe, he kindly allowed me to make his portrait in his workshop.
Electricity

Here’s another shot from 2000, taken in the small electrical museum at Burton Constable Hall. Processed from the original camera JPEG file in modern software, the qualities not bad at all. D1 24mm f8 @ 1/8, ISO 200
The Beer Man

I made this portrait of Tom Wood the owner of the Highwood Brewery based in Lincolnshire, on a very wet and cold afternoon in a dark and windy (yes windy) distribution centre. Tom was a great subject, and very patient as I wrestled with the technical problems of shooting in the very low light!
Soft & Gentle

We are really lucky as photographers these days with the digital toolbox we have at our disposal. This picture is lit with a 5 foot strip softbox. Small blemishes on the models skin have been removed with Photoshop’s healing brush, and a ‘glamour glow’ filter applied to soften the image, it certainly beats vaseline on [...]
A Head of Steam
A retired engineer from BP Chemicals Saltend, works on a scale model of a steam engine he built himself. The Engine was called ‘Lady Barbara after his wife. Picture was taken in 1983. I had to photograph this gentleman for the BP Chemical magazine as he had recently retired, he had built a fantastic workshop [...]
The Next Prime Minister?

The Next Prime Minister? Who knows, but the leader of the Liberal Democrats certainly looks the part, we’ll be seeing a lot more of him on our TV screens over the next few months.
The Man at the Childrens University

As I’ve said before the top thing about being a photographer is you get to meet lots of interesting people. I recently photographed the Children’s University, John Buttrick the powerhouse behind the project in Hull. John had a very small office but you have to work with what you have, the wall behind his desk [...]
All in a good cause

A couple of weeks ago I had an interesting job photographing local people who represent organizations in receipt of community awards from Kcom Group, I had eight people to shoot and this image came out as my favorite it shows Sarah of Hull Truck Theatre.
Party Season pass the glass

Were heading into the drinking or should that be festive season? anyway this is a favorite shot from last year and the warm glow reminds me of Christmas!
Warmest Autumn day on record?

By this time of year we usually have a winter coat on, the wind is often from the east and we wake up to a hard frosts. Well look at these portraits, I certainly struck lucky this time with the weather, in fact I had to take my coat off as I worked up quite [...]
