All in a good cause

All in a good cause

A couple of weeks ago I had an interesting job photographing local people who represent organizations in receipt of community awards from Kcom Group, I had eight people to shoot and this image came out as my favorite it shows Sarah of Hull Truck Theatre.

Rush hour on Ferensway

Shooting in the dark again last night, its a good time of year for night shots because in this neck of the woods the sunsets before 4pm, I know I’m turning into an old git but this cityscape has changed an awful lot in the past five years with demolition and the building of the [...]

Just like the Blitz?

Just like the Blitz?

I’m too young to remember the Blitz in Hull, but the intensity of my exposure mistake looks to me at least like a large amount of ordinance going off on the roof of Hull’s City Hall. The pyrotechnics were part of Hull Christmas light switch on.

New Moon shines on Christmas shoppers

New Moon shines on Christmas shoppers

Were all counting down to Christmas, walking back to my car after photographing the cites festive lighting displays I passed Hull’s biggest shopping centre looking splendid in the evening light, even the new moon put in an appearance. Princes Quay was completed in the 1980′s, built on stilts over the former Princes Dock.

Fireworks & Reindeers

I’ve worked on country [...]

Hull’s Architecture Centre on Castle Street The Deep, Hull West Hull skyline, blocks of flats and the Hull Royal Infirmary. Humber Quay’s skyline, Kingston upon Hull River Hull Skyline, this will be an interesting shot to repeat in a couple of year’s as the area has planning approval for a lot of new building.

St Andrews dock closed in 1975 and what was left of the fishing fleet moved to the neighboring  Albert dock, two of the pictures show detail of the lock and capstan mechanism that allowed the gates to open and close, undergrowth is slowly claiming them back. The building is the J Marr offices which when [...]

Vik and the Sunrise

Vik and the Sunrise

Call me Mr Indecisive, not the best of quality in a photographer but I can’t make my mind up, B&W or Colour, so please enjoy them both. The Voyage statue sister to the Voyage statue at Vik in  Iceland, photographed on a foggy cold morning on Hull pier.

What a difference 26 years makes

What a difference 26 years makes

The first image was made in the early 1980′s (I guess 83) of the then busy river Hull gravel works. The building on the left is the old Trinity House buoy shed. I used this as my reference point for the later image (taken 20091110). I could not use the exact same spot as the [...]

Another Glorious Autumn Morning

Another Glorious Autumn Morning

This is the second time in a month I’ve dropped a car off at our local garage and then gone for a walk with my camera around the area.  The autumn light is forever changing and on this jaunt I saw the first frost for months. Only a few shopping days to Christmas! Full set [...]

The City’s Changing Skyline

The City's Changing Skyline

Skyline 1983 Skyline 2009 I’ve seen a lot of changes in the 26 years between the two images here. Hull is being gradually re developed, many old structures have disappeared from the skyline replaced with some impressive new architecture.  I haven’t achieved exactly the right angle between the two images but they do show how [...]

The Smell of Fish

When the wind was in the right direction the city smelled of fish. the biggest culprit? Hull Fish Meal and Oil Company that once stood on the south side of Hull St Andrews dock. The processing house processed the left over fish parts after filleting namely the head and spine. The plant also took fish [...]
