A Sign of the Economic times?

The chartered ferry ‘Norcape’ heads up the river humber bound for Rotterdam on a sunny summer evening in 2007. Since this picture was taken the ferry was ‘laid up’ in early 2009 due to lack of trade. Its also interesting to note the cargos of building bricks stacked on the dockside, UK imports and exports [...]
The Ground Beneath my Feet

The winter period is the worst time of year for erosion on the East Yorkshire coast, the top photograph shows collapsed gun emplacements and other military steel re-enforced concrete structures falling into the north sea at Kilnsea, the bottom Image shows stone plaques built into the wall of Spurn Heritage Coast ‘Blue Bell’ Visitor Centre, [...]
River Trials
Heres a couple of images of the trawler ‘Hill Cove’ being ushered out of Hull’s Albert Dock by the mooring tug ‘Keelman’ into the river humber. The vessel would have been in the port for refitting and servicing work and as such would undertake a river trial to check its various systems were working correctly [...]

New Moon shines on Christmas shoppers

Were all counting down to Christmas, walking back to my car after photographing the cites festive lighting displays I passed Hull’s biggest shopping centre looking splendid in the evening light, even the new moon put in an appearance. Princes Quay was completed in the 1980′s, built on stilts over the former Princes Dock.
Old Man River

Kingston upon Hull is changing, the fabric of the city has been for many years as familiar sights gradually disappear. Many of the traditional businesses based along the River Hull have closed, shipbuilders and repairers now long gone as it seems is much of the river traffic, bridges that span the river seldom swing. All [...]
Black & White or Colour?

As a young photographer I cut my teeth in a monochrome world, in the late 70s colour film was slow iso, black & white images were King, as we stepped into the 1980′s colour emulsions became the norm but it was never easy to make good quality grayscale prints from colour negatives or transparencies. In [...]

Driffield Canal

The refurbished lock on the Driffield canal at Wansford, this is a HDR image in black and white, I think I actually prefer many HDR images processed in monotone for the loverley spread of tone.
VTS Humber Spurn Point

VTS Humber control tower at Spurn Point, I love the quality of the late summer evening light.
An hour at Spurn Point

Spent a pleasurable hour at Spurn Point on Sunday evening, the light was coming good but I didn’t stay as long as I intended as I wasn’t keen on driving the Spurn road in the dark, its hard enough in daylight!
Clipper Race 2009 – Day One Hull Marina

Day one of the Clipper Race weekend, well for me anyway. Took a walk around the marina in the sunshine and made a few images and mental notes, I plan to visit on Friday evening to see the lanterns that have been assembles in the Humber Street area. they should look really dramatic at twilight.
Princes Dock

I’ve been searching through my archive and came up with this image which I find interesting, it shows the abandoned Prince Dock Hull city centre, winter 1983, now the home of the Princes Quay shopping centre. I shot this image on my (new to me) Hasselblad 500 CM / 80mm lens, Kodak Vericolor II film [...]
