Famous for Fish & Chips

Famous for Fish & Chips

Click here to launch gallery Stanton’s cafe could be found on Hull’s Albert dock, a feeding place for dock workers and the occasional passer-by. Stanton’s were famous for the quality of their fish and chips and their home-made bread cakes. Both the original cafe and the temporary caravans are now long gone, but I believe [...]

Can you see the Mast, Propeller & Ship?

Recent history certainly encourages interest in my blog entries, this  shot was taken at the same time as yesterdays post, The Deep is a very clever building and to me definitely look’s like the hull of a ship.

A bit of History

A bit of History

The structure of Hull’s ‘Deep’ is nearly complete in January 2001, a lot of work had been done since this earlier image.

I just wanna be a winner

I just wanna be a winner

I often cover PR stories for clients, a little forward planning often helps to produce a better image. This young girl had won a major local competition to design the front cover of a publication. The forward planning in this case was bringing along many of the competition entries to form the background of the [...]

Dinner with the Fishes

Dinner with the Fishes

I covered an awards ceremony at The Deep in Hull last night, dinner was served in one of the many aquarium viewing areas which provides a really unique way to dine, and before you ask the main course was steak not fish. D700 35mm f3.2 @ 1/10, ISO 3200

One of my Favorite Photographers

Don McCullin is well known for his War and Social issue photography but he’s also a superb landscape photographer. I bought one of his books around 20 years ago titled ‘Open Skies’ which I often refer too. The images are dark end moody much like the one above, with the software we have available today [...]

Last signs of Life

Last signs of Life

Here’s a shot of the busy fabrication shop at Richard Dunston shipbuilders in Hessle, East Yorkshire taken in the late 1980’s when the yard had a healthy order book. Dunston’s finally closed in 1993 and was then used as a shipping wharf until recently, with most of the site buildings finding other uses. Business ceased [...]

Winter Winter go away!

Winter Winter go away!

Traveling over the Humber Bridge yesterday I noticed that another landmark has disappeared from the Humber bank, the last remaining gantry crane has been dismantled at the former Richard Dunston shipyard (bottom picture). I made a detour and took a few images of the partially demolished fabrication shop which I will post later in the [...]
